Finer bubbles = finer coffee

Coffee is the fuel that gets a large proportion of the world’s population going in the morning. Coffee is already an enormous international market, with the average coffee drinker consuming three cups per day, and the “ready-to-drink” market is expected to grow 67% between 2017 and 2022.

 Coffee with finer bubbles is perceived to be higher quality so our customer asked OMS to create a system that would help them measure the fineness of the bubbles in coffee made by different machines.

Quality illumination and customised software

OMS created a system with outstanding illumination so the specialised camera could generate high quality images. We also built customised software to analyse the images and provided the whole system in a professional package for use at our customer’s site.

Our lighting arrangement provided a high level of image control. Using parameters set by the operator, our software used the images to compute the bubbles’ size and shape. We presented the statistics in a histogram format, allowing the operator to make quantitative comparisons between different coffee machine bubbles – and hence the quality of their product.
