New SmartFit™ features increase productivity offshore
OMS is pleased to announce that we have added new features to our SmartFit™ system. The new features allow for multiple HiLo zones and multiple LSW-allowed zones to be selected which have already been shown to increase productivity offshore, especially when used in conjunction with our Bevel 360 tool. They are designed to assist on projects where pipe quality affects HiLo.
In situations where pipe HiLo is higher than specification or creates a challenge for welding, the software can now choose a rotation that accepts a slightly higher mismatch in a region that the welder finds acceptable. This new approach makes the software faster and more versatile.
Through our offshore work using the Bevel 360 tool; we identified that localised shape either side of the LSW can lead to a reduction in bevel root thickness which, if not considered, can increase the change of burn through during the root pass. SmartFit™ now allows our technician to work with the welder’s preference regarding location of the LSW and Hilo distribution.

Further new features are planned – including an addition to the Smart Sequencing process that allows the user to create an automated pipe sequence based on the incoming barge stack.
