Barzan, Qatar
OMS has been working on the QatarGas-owned Barzan project for several years, contracted for different aspects of the project by various operators. OMS has provided pipe end measurement services, SmartFit™ fit-up services and weld inspection (onshore and offshore) at locations including Qatar, Germany, Italy and Indonesia.

Weld inspection work:
OMS carried out extensive weld inspection work on the offshore section of the Barzan project. We inspected a wide variety of pipeline welds including in critical sections such as expansion loops, risers, reducers, topsides and offshore platforms.
Our award-winning weld inspection system was deployed with OMS robotic crawlers, which are capable of accessing the most difficult-to-reach pipeline sections. State-of-the-art lasers measured misalignment (HiLo), root concavity, incomplete penetration, weld width, re-entrant angle and surface defects while ultra HD cameras identified discolouration, surface features such as grinding marks and pitting, evidence of internal weld repairs and surface cracking. We also carried out pre-project NDT qualification and WPQT validation on various processes, including validation for pup welds. Work took place at the OMS premises in Stansted, UK and offshore in Qatar.
